The NFL American football league has opted to postpone the sale of tickets for its first game at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium amid construction delays at the new state-of-the-art venue.
UK newspaper The Times reported that the NFL has been given an option to move the October 14 game between the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks to London’s Wembley Stadium – where two games are already scheduled for later that month.
The Times noted that tickets for the two Wembley games have already sold out. Tickets for the game at Tottenham’s new stadium, though, will not go on sale until after the venue has staged two test events.
Spurs will play an academy fixture at the stadium on August 27, before a ‘Legends’ team, featuring a host of former players, face Bayern Munich Legends on September 1. Tottenham is not due to play a first-team fixture at the stadium until September 15, when the new facility hosts the Premier League game against Liverpool.
The stadium has been fitted with a retractable pitch to allow it to host NFL games. Tottenham has already announced that its home match against Fulham on August 18 will be played at Wembley, where all of the club’s home games were played last season.
The new stadium is being built next to Tottenham’s old White Hart Lane ground and will have a capacity of 62,000.
