LAFC taps into contactless ticketing

Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) has implemented NFC contactless technology en masse at its Banc of California home stadium.

Season ticket-holders for the Major League Soccer club will be able to enter the stadium with ease by using the contactless tickets feature from their iPhone or Apple Watch.

Through its partnership with SeatGeek and Pronto CX, LAFC’s most loyal fans can access their tickets automatically by simply holding their Apple device near the ticket reader.

Pronto CX is a mobile-first smart event platform using NFC technology for live events. The firm specialises in tap-and-go Apple Wallet and Google Pay based experiences, including event tickets, contactless payments, and enablement of a loyalty/membership programme.

LAFC fans no longer requires paper tickets, PDFs, QR or barcodes, though they are still accepted. However, once a fan uses one method of entry, the other will no longer be valid.

Another benefit for season ticket members is that they will only need to add a season ticket to Apple Wallet one time as their ticket will update automatically for each match the whole season.

SeatGeek serves as both the primary and secondary ticketing marketplace partner for LAFC, who play at the 22,000-capacity Banc of California Stadium. SeatGeek’s mobile-first platform attempts to allow fans to easily buy, sell and transfer tickets to one another on their devices.

For its 2018 inaugural MLS campaign, LAFC sold out of its season memberships, having shifted all 17,500 passes.
