Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise New York City FC (NYCFC) gave away 50 tickets to its final game of the regular season yesterday (Sunday) in the latest activation of its commercial partnership with dating app Tinder.
Free individual tickets were handed out to New York City Tinder users on Thursday if they turned up to a new Tinder billboard on the corner of Stanton St. and Essex St. and showed that they had the app on their phones.
The initiative formed part of NYCFC’s Fan Appreciation Day, with players Kwame Awuah and Jonathan Lewis on hand to give out the tickets.
Tinder first partnered with English Premier League club Manchester City, and sister team NYCFC, in April, with the deal marking its first major sponsorship agreement with a sports team. It has since undertaken various activations with both clubs.
Sunday’s game saw NYCFC defeat Philadelphia Union 3-1 in front of a crowd of 26,441 at Yankee Stadium. They will meet the Union again in the MLS playoffs.
