Elvis Presley Enterprises has teamed up with Live Nation to introduce a year-round series of concerts to the ‘King of Rock’s’ Graceland Hotel.
Between 50-75 shows will be brought to the 2,000-capacity Soundstage and the 464-seat theatre inside the Graceland Hotel throughout 2019.
In 2020, the number of shows at the venue is expected to increase, according to EPE officials.
Ben Weeden, chief operating officer of Live Nation Clubs and Theaters, said that Graceland is “one of the singular iconic and transformational music brands on earth” and Live Nation is “anticipating a creative partnership that will play a role in honouring such a historic artist and the place he called home,” according to TicketNews.
Joel Weinshanker, managing partner of Graceland Holdings, said that the 2019 lineup will include both a mix of legacy artists and underground, up-and-coming acts.
He said: “We’ve already had a lot of interest within the industry and from artists about playing Graceland.
“We expect we’re going to be doing a lot of different kinds of shows, whether its album release parties, or someone wanting to make a live album — and we’ve already had a dozen requests to do that. Also, because we have state-of-the-art light, sound and video setup, an artist doesn’t even need to be on tour with their own production to do a show here. I’ve had a number of artists saying they’d like to come and play a one-off event.”
He added that the majority of people who come to Graceland, which is around 600,000 guests annually, want to experience pop culture and rock and roll.
Weinshanker said that 20 million people have visited Graceland since its opening to the public in 1982, but EPE said it wants to give millions of new guests another reason to come visit.
“Graceland is already the most famous music destination in the world,” he said. “And we want to make it one of the most famous destinations to see live music as well.”
