Facebook reels in ticketing deal with Odeon

Facebook has signed a deal with UK cinema chain Odeon that will allow users to buy tickets without leaving the social media platform.

As part of the deal, Facebook has unveiled a ‘Films’ tab that will enable movie-goers to purchase tickets via Odeon, which has 109 cinemas in the UK.

The new service will also allow users to buy tickets for screenings at Vue and Cineworld.

Anna Higgs, Facebook’s head of entertainment, said: “There are millions of people around the world already interacting with film-related experiences on our platform every day, and UK cinema admissions hit a record high in 2018.”

The partnership follows Odeon owner AMC’s agreement with Facebook to sell cinema tickets in the US last year.

Amy Miller, director of digital product and technology at Odeon, said: “We’re always looking at new innovations and ways to give our guests a better service, and this new way of purchasing tickets online helps to expand our guests’ choices on where and how they purchase their cinema tickets.”
