New Padres signing gives major ticket revenue boost

Major League Baseball team the San Diego Padres saw a $3m (£2.3m/€2.6m) boost in revenue from ticket sales in past two weeks.

According to the team’s president of business operations, Erik Greupner, the additional revenue came in the two weeks after third baseman Manny Machado agreed a 10-year, $300m contract, ESPN reports.

While no specific ticketing numbers were revealed, Greupner said “at least double” the number of tickets that are normally projected for this time of year have been sold.

The MLB club’s executives submitted projections for the initial influx of ticket revenue, and Greupner said the team is “at or ahead of what we anticipated.”

Greupner told ESPN: “We’re encouraged that it’s really setting a new trend line for us this season in terms of demand for tickets and merchandise.”
