UConn changes ticketing strategy, students go free

The University of Connecticut (UConn) athletics department is giving its student body free tickets to all regular-season home games.

Students will now only need to show their student ID to gain access to ticketed events, including American football, men’s and women’s football, men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey.

Entry will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Director of athletics Dave Benedict said, according to the UConn Blog: “Our students help create an exciting atmosphere at many of our home events and I am hopeful that this new streamlined process will entice even more students to join the fun. Students already contribute to our success through student fees and I feel it is important to eliminate any cost to them above and beyond those fees.”

UConn is a member of the NCAA’s Division I and the American Athletic Conference, with many of its student-athletes moving on to the NBA, WNBA and MLS professional leagues.
