NFL’s 49ers debuts Season Share’s fractional ownership tech

The NFL’s San Francisco 49ers has become the first major league sports team to offer fractional ownership of multi-game ticket packages via Season Share.

The proprietary ticketing technology allows teams to offer a new solution to current and prospective multi-game ticket package purchasers who wish to split and share tickets with either friends and family or with other fans using private groups

Under the terms of the multi-year deal, Season Share’s app and website will provide 49ers fans with ‘game-drafting’ capabilities, whereby they can pick their own games without the difficulties often associated with sharing multi-game ticket packages.

The investment arm of the five-time Super Bowl champions, 49ers Enterprises, is an equity partner in Season Share with representation on the company’s advisory board.

Aaron Holland, Season Share co-founder and chief executive, said: “In a world dominated by fractional ownership and monthly memberships, the legacy tactics of ticket sales are being challenged more than ever.

“Season Share has created a technology solution to solve for this by putting the power of customisation in the hands of consumers while retaining the important affinity connections that fans want to have with their teams.”

Primary ticket inventory is allocated directly to Season Share by the team, with fans able to view available inventory and purchase their portion of the ticket package directly on the app.

After purchase, fans are prompted to share the ticket package with contacts directly from their phone’s contact list. Additional ticket group members download the app, purchase their portion of the ticket package and select their games in the group’s game draft.

The Season Share platform also stores tickets and allows fans to make ticket deposits for the 2019 season.

Season Share will provide information to the 49ers on attendance, share partners and ticket usage through accessible fan data within their CRM.

Season Share – which is set to unveil its first college sports partner later this year – said the product is designed to complement an organisation’s existing sales and retention process. Teams do not need to pay an upfront cost for the platform as it is run on a revenue sharing model, and its white-label solutions are sold on a licence-based model.

Jamie Brandt, 49ers vice president of sales and service and Season Share advisory board member, said: “Innovation is a core principle of the 49ers organisation and in that spirit, we are thrilled to be the first NFL team on Season Share’s technology and to be a strategic partner on their platform that we believe can revolutionise this industry.

“Season Share allows us to offer a truly innovative solution to both current and prospective ticket holders that can add real value to their accounts.”
