Cinemark deal boosts Atom Tickets’ reach

Atom Tickets has expanded its cinema network by around a fifth after a major deal with Cinemark, one of North America’s largest national exhibitors.

The social movie-ticketing platform now services around 26,000 screens across the US after adding 4,500 screens at 340 Cinemark locations.

Through the deal, movie fans will be able to book tickets through the Atom app for any Cinemark location. Atom said Cinemark venues will be integrated into its platform by mid-summer.

“We’re thrilled to have Cinemark as our newest exhibitor partner to satisfy the significant consumer demand for this chain of theatres on the Atom platform,” said Matthew Bakal, chairman and co-founder of Atom Tickets, which attracts six million active users per month.

“We know this partnership will deliver an even better user experience when hundreds of Cinemark locations appear in the Atom app.

“Cinemark is an innovative leader in the exhibition industry and we’re excited to partner with them to grow their audience and attract more guests with digital ticketing.”

Atom said Cinemark patrons will benefit from an improved service thanks to its social ticketing platform, which allows them to invite friends via contacts and eliminates the need for paper tickets. It added that the Cinemark deal brings increased screen count in major markets such as Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, Sacramento and Denver, and means it is now partnered with seven of the top 10 US cinema exhibitors.

“Our first priority is to make purchasing tickets as seamless as possible for our guests,” said Mark Zoradi, chief executive of Cinemark.

“Through our partnership with Atom Tickets, Cinemark’s customers will now have even more opportunities to easily access tickets to every must-see movie.”

Atom is backed by Lionsgate, Disney, and Fidelity Management & Research Company. Its advisory board includes Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Dwayne Johnson.
