Smooth Commerce teams up with new Canadian league

Consumer engagement platform provider Smooth Commerce has struck a seven-year deal with Canadian Soccer Business (CSB), the commercial rights-holder of the new Canadian Premier League (CPL).

Under the agreement, which designates Smooth Commerce as CSB’s exclusive mobile fan engagement partner, the company will provide dedicated mobile services for fans, complementing the work of sports technology provider Stadium Digital, which was acquired by CSB last year.

The Smooth Commerce platform facilitates mobile payments, food service and retail ordering, data analytics, ticketing and various other engagement opportunities. Meanwhile the inaugural season of the CPL, Canada’s new professional football league, kicked off at the end of April.

The first mobile product launched under the partnership is the CPL Centre Circle app, which allows fans to follow their favourite team and access a curated stories feed, as well as statistics, promotions and special features. The app also provides access to the Centre Circle loyalty programme and match tickets.

“Our partnership with Smooth Commerce allows us to accelerate the delivery of the kind of polished and high-utility mobile app that our fans expect, allowing them to interact with our clubs in more meaningful and personalised ways,” CPL commissioner David Clanachan said.

“Smooth’s core capabilities aligned perfectly with our desire to execute on a mobile-first fan engagement model, which we’ve realised with the Centre Circle app.”

The Smooth Commerce platform facilitates mobile payment, food service and retail ordering, engagement, data analytics, ticketing and more to allow retail, sports, and entertainment businesses to drive the maximum possible value for their customers.

Smooth Commerce CEO Brian Deck added: “Like many Canadian sports fans, we are excited by the launch of the Canadian Premier League and what it means for soccer across the country.

“Canadian Soccer Business has taken an incredibly innovative approach to operating the CPL, and we could not be happier to be partnered with CSB to apply our technology to deliver fans a mobile-first experience like no league has achieved.”
