UEFA goes back on Super Cup allocation promise

Premier League clubs Liverpool and Chelsea have been allocated just over 5,000 tickets each for the UEFA Super Cup final at the 38,000-capacity Vodafone Park in Istanbul.

UEFA claimed on Tuesday that 78 per cent of tickets would go to the supporters of each club, with the remaining seats set aside for the local organising committee, UEFA and national associations, commercial partners and broadcasters.

However, Liverpool confirmed it had been given just 5,257 tickets for the game, which is 13 per cent of Super Lig club Besiktas’ stadium capacity.

Both clubs faced lower-than-expected allocations during their recent appearances in UEFA finals.

Liverpool were given 16,600 passes during their victory against Tottenham in the Champions League final at the 64,000-capacity Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid earlier this month. For the Europa League final in Azerbaijan at the 69,800-seat Baku Olympic Stadium, Chelsea received just 5,800 tickets, though travel and logistical issues meant the demand was much lower.

Ticket prices for the August 14 game range from €50 to €150.
