The Lion King roars past previous live-action presale records

The Lion King has smashed Disney’s live-action records for Fandango and Atom Tickets in its first day of advance ticket sales.

Fandango reported the film is its best first-day presales for a Disney release, outside of the Star Wars or Marvel Cinematic Universe, beating the previous record holder, Beauty and the Beast.

The Lion King live-action movie, which doesn’t open until July 19, has also surpassed other Disney remakes such as Aladdin and The Jungle Book after tickets went on sale on Monday.

Fandango also said the film is on pace to become 2019’s second-best advance ticket seller on the site, after Avengers: Endgame.

“The Lion King is the summer’s most anticipated family film,” Fandango managing editor Erik Davis, according to BGR. “With a marvellous ensemble cast, ground-breaking effects, a host of songs we all know by heart and a director who has emerged as a major visionary talent, the recipe is there for hearts to be warmed and records to be broken.”

Atom Tickets has seen similar success with the presale, as the Lion King shifted four times as many tickets as Disney’s Aladdin over the same time period.

The remake also tops Atom’s list of previous top family pre-sellers that includes Toy Story 4, Aladdin, Pokemon Detective Pikachu and Shazam.
