Ticketmaster to trial SafeTix in Australia

Ticketmaster has announced it is introducing its SafeTix technology into the Australian market.

The new SafeTix enhancement to Presence will be trialled for AFL Aussie rules football fans at both the 53,000-capacity Marvel Stadium and the 60,000-capacity Perth Stadium.

The identity-based product provides ticket-holders with a unique and identifiable mobile barcode that automatically refreshes every few seconds.

This process of encrypted barcodes is designed to combat fraud as it means people cannot screenshot or copy the barcode data. The tickets also include NFC technology that will allow fans to enter venues through a simple ‘tap-and-go’ experience at venue entrances.

Ticketmaster’s chief product officer, Justin Berleigh, told the Herald Sun newspaper: “We’ve designed this thing out of the gate to scale to the largest venues in the ecosystem, and the AFL certainly falls into that category.”

The ticketing giant’s new technology is already being used in the US, with all NHL ice hockey arenas to leverage Ticketmaster Presence in the 2020 season. In addition, 28 of the 32 NFL American football stadiums are set to have SafeTix installed for the upcoming season.
