Applications open for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic ticket lottery

Ticket applications for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games lottery open today (Thursday) for Japanese residents.

The online application process can be submitted through its official ticket sales website and will run through to September 9, with results to be announced on October 2.

Organisers of the Paralympics said they are aiming for “full stadiums” for every event, with ticket prices starting at Y500 (£4/€4.50/$5), with seats at competitive events starting at Y900 and costing no more than Y7,000.

Tickets for the opening and closing Ceremonies will cost between Y8,000 and Y150,000.

Organisers said their goal was to make the Paralympic Games accessible to young people with some school tickets specifically allocated to prefectures in northeastern Japan affected by the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters.

Applicants must first register for an Olympic ID, with those who previously registered to apply for Olympic Games tickets able to use the same ID.

The Tokyo Paralympics are projected to feature a record 4,400 athletes, with the Games including the new disciplines of badminton and taekwondo.
