TEG acquires UK-based The MJR Group

Asia-Pacific live entertainment and ticketing company TEG has acquired UK-based event promoter and venue operator The MJR Group.

MJR currently tickets with Eventbrite, though it is unclear how long the promoter will remain with this platform given TEG’s proven ticketing capabilities.

The MJR Group is based in the English city of Bristol and promotes and operates more than 2,000 shows a year. It has toured acts including 50 Cent, Sia, Hans Zimmer and Culture Club.

The MJR Group’s venue portfolio includes Cardiff’s TramShed and The Mill in Birmingham, while it also holds stakes in The Warehouse in Leeds and owns club-night brand Propaganda.

Under the agreement, The MJR Group’s operations will be incorporated into TEG’s global offering, with The MJR Group’s UK operations to be renamed TEG UK.

TEG said the acquisition demonstrates its commitment to expanding its integrated model around the world and strengthens its position within the UK and European markets.

TEG chief executive Geoff Jones said: “TEG is already Asia-Pacific’s leading ticketing, live entertainment and technology business and this acquisition marks a significant step towards TEG becoming a global live entertainment powerhouse.

“The MJR Group is a great fit for TEG. It has strong management talent and a clever live entertainment model to which TEG can add ticketing, analytics and digital capability. The MJR Group also brings significant additions to our venue portfolio.”

The MJR Group’s three partners – Richard Buck, group chief executive and head of UK; Scott Mesiti, head of Australia and New Zealand; and Dan Ickowitz-Seidler, head of UK venues and Propaganda – will remain with the TEG group.

Buck said: “We are very excited by this venture and the enhanced business opportunities brought by TEG. We’ve worked hard to scale the business over the last five years and this next step in our evolution will further strengthen our position in the market.

“Both companies are digitally-focused and this synergy allows both parties even more leverage by combining each other’s tech expertise and insights to best connect with live entertainment fans.”

TEG is headquartered in Sydney, Australia and has six offices worldwide. It comprises Ticketek, TEG Live, TEG Dainty, TEG Analytics, TEG Insights, TEG Digital, Softix, Qudos Bank Arena, Eventopia, Life Like Touring, The Entertainment Store, Brickman Exhibitions and TEG Asia.

The MJR Group operates out of Sydney and Port Macquarie in Australia, as well as London and Bristol in the UK. It has operated and promoted tours across Dubai, South Africa, Japan and China.
