Bandsintown launches ticket data-driven live music charts

Concert discovery service Bandsintown has launched data-driven online live music charts based on clicks to ticketing sites via its platform.

The charts are based on artist and fan data worldwide and in several US cities. In these locations, Bandsintown has dedicated rankings for artists at every stage of their career: buzzing, emerging and established.

Bandsintown’s 24 Live Music Charts are powered by data insights based on the interactions of its registered fans who generate 500,000 clicks to ticketing sites every day. The charts are based on a formula that blends tracker growth and fan engagement (ticket clicks and RSVPs to artist events) using a custom weighting system.

“In a fast-growing streaming music world, there is nothing more true than real fans’ interactions and engagement at live music events to build successful and long-term artist careers,” said Bandsintown managing partner Fabrice Sergent.

“Bandsintown’s dataset is unique in the marketplace as it highlights national and local rising stars based on fans engagement in the real world. The Bandsintown Live Music Charts furthers Bandsintown’s mission to support developing artists.”

In addition, through a new partnership with Billboard, Bandsintown will this month launch a Tour Index with four weekly charts. These rankings will showcase the top overall and rising artists, both domestically in the US and globally.

The concert discovery company said in a statement: “While there are several charts related to recorded music sales and streams, the Bandsintown Live Music Charts are the first of their kind, illustrating current interest in artists’ touring activity. Bandsintown is in a unique position to assess fan behaviour in local touring markets and determine how the live music landscape varies globally.”

Last month, the company rebranded its artist portal with free geo-targeted messaging to fans, among other changes. The updates have expanded the direct-to-fan messaging tool that features new posting capabilities, including geo-targeted messaging, which allows artists to target their fans by specific city or region.
