MLS’ Earthquakes to phase out paper tickets with new Ticketmaster deal

Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise the San Jose Earthquakes has renewed its partnership with Ticketmaster as part of its effort to phase out paper ticketing.

The club will implement Ticketmaster Presence at the 18,000-seat Avaya stadium ahead of the 2020 season.

Quakes fans will be provided ticket security with SafeTix, the latest enhancement to Ticketmaster Presence. Through NFC technology utilising Apple Wallet, Google Pay and rotating barcodes that refresh every 15 seconds, SafeTix prevents the replication and sale of fake tickets.

“The San Jose Earthquakes are committed to leveraging the best technologies available for their fans, and we’re proud to continue our partnership to deliver on that promise at Avaya Stadium,” said Clay Luter, EVP and co-head of sports for Ticketmaster, North America.

“With Ticketmaster Presence and SafeTix, Earthquakes fans will be provided with the kind of personalisation we all want, tailored to their specific interests and needs, while we work hard to eradicate fraud through our latest innovations in anti-counterfeit technology.”

Earthquakes chief operating officer Jared Shawlee added: “As we evaluated our ticketing platform moving forward, we prioritised fan experience and finding the most secure way to buy, sell and transfer tickets. We believe that with the exciting product enhancements Ticketmaster will introduce in 2020, Quakes fans will enjoy a streamlined process to watch their favourite team play.”
