Mariners claim MLB first with flexible season ticket scheme

The Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team has launched a new flexible season ticket membership in a move that will allow fans to choose how many games they wish to attend over the course of the season.

The Mariners said the membership is the first in MLB that gives fans the chance to build their plan throughout the season by selecting how many tickets, seat locations and games they want. Discounts will range from 10 per cent to 50 per cent off the dynamic single-game ticket price.

Flex members will be able to choose from six membership levels – Rookie, Pro, Veteran, MVP, Hall of Fame and Legend – with each offering their own associated discounts and benefits. Fans can access their online member portal to select the number of games, tickets and seat locations for each game and if their plans change they are able to add or exchange tickets at the discounted member rate.

The offer will be available for the entire 2020 season and fans are able to upgrade their level at any time. Each of the six membership levels give fans the ability to attend all 81 home games. The Mariners noted that, under the Rookie membership, $600 (£465/€539) would provide one person with standing-room access for each game, or 32 value games from view level seats, or 10 games in Terrace Club seats.

Frances Traisman, senior vice-president of sales for the Mariners, said: “We are excited to bring this new, fully-flexible membership option to our fans and give them the power to customise their ballpark experience to fit their busy schedules and ever-changing lifestyles.

“With the option to purchase up to eight tickets per game in a variety of seating locations, Flex Memberships offer a solution for all fans – families, friends and businesses – to enjoy the season at T-Mobile Park.”

Clay Luter, executive vice-president and co-head of sports for Ticketmaster, North America, added: “We are proud of our nearly 40-year partnership with the Mariners, who share our commitment to putting fans first.

“From selling the first online ticket ever to their early adoption of our digital ticketing platform to this new flex membership program, the Mariners have always embraced the latest in Ticketmaster’s cutting-edge technology, which has made them the perfect partner in revolutionising the fan experience.”
