USF drives attendance up through rewards incentives

The University of South Florida (USF) has launched a rewards-based initiative to help boost attendance at its 65,890-capacity Raymond James Stadium and other athletic events.

Students are being incentivised to buy tickets and attend sports, as well as other USF Athletics events around campus and the area, through building points toward prizes, including a 2019 Ford EcoSport SE.

Fans can win the vehicle by downloading and activating the HerdPerks app and attending games, with attendance to be logged via geofencing on the app

“USF students’ energy, passion and support are so vital to a tremendous home-field advantage and atmosphere for all of our athletic teams,” vice-president of athletics Michael Kelly said.

“We wanted to do something big to show our appreciation and reward the most passionate students. We are grateful for Terry Mullane, the Parks family and the Parks Motor Group for helping us make this happen.”

In 2018, the average attendance for the Bulls’ first three home games was 24,815, which was an increase of more than 18 per cent from the first three home contests of 2017 (20,906). So far in 2019, the November 7 game against Temple welcomed 26,214 fans, while last week’s turnout was up to 29,112.

Students can check-in at events throughout the year to rack up points and unlock prizes throughout the season. Top points can be gained by attending USF games, which earn a standard 15 points, but can also be designated as double and triple points events. Smaller point totals can be accrued by attending events such as Horns Up Rallys, radio shows, away game watch parties and more, with all events earning points to be listed on the Herd Perks app.

Several prizes will be presented to USF students with the most HerdPerks points at the conclusion of the 2019-20 USF Athletics season, including a complimentary campus meal plan, spring break getaway and the grand prize of the 2019 Ford EcoSport SE.
