AEG-owned AXS has been unanimously approved by the Denver City Council in a renewed $5m contract that will see the firm remain as the ticket partner for all city-owned venues.
The exclusive extension agreement will force every promoter looking to book shows at city venues to use AXS as its ticket-seller.
The deal was announced yesterday (Monday) after the previous five-year contract with AXS expired.
City venues include the 9,525-capacity Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Bellco Theatre, 10,200-capacity Denver Coliseum, McNichols Building, the Buell Theatre and the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
Under the new agreement, $3 for every ticket purchased will be set aside for AXS, with the Denver council “guaranteeing” it will shift at least 300,000 tickets annually through AXS.
According to the Denver Post, Denver officials have said that the arrangement with AXS has worked well for the city.
The deal follows a probe recently opened by the US House of Representatives Energy and Commerce committee into the US ticketing industry, focusing on the “potentially unfair and deceptive practices occurring in the primary and secondary ticket marketplace.”
The committee has already requested detailed information and documents from the heads of six major ticketing companies, which are Live Nation (which owns Ticketmaster), AEG (which owns AXS Ticketing), Stubhub, Vivid Seats, TicketNetwork and Tickets.com.
