BookMyShow has reported year-on-year growth of 156% on the number live events wholly executed by the Indian ticketing and live entertainment giant in 2019.
Over 17,500 events were listed on BookMyShow last year, with a 23% increase from 2018. The company handled two of the biggest international events in the country with the NBA India Games and U2: The Joshua Tree Tour.
Cinema ticketing saw an 11% increase in advance ticket sales in 2019 on the platform, just shy of 20 million tickets. Eleven per cent of movie tickets were booked before the film’s release and more than 45 films surpassed the one million ticket sales mark on the platform.
Around 3% of the total number of tickets booked in 2019 were purchased in the last 30 minutes before a movie’s start time.
Avengers: Endgame was top of the charts in terms of tickets sold, followed by Indian films URI – The Surgical Strike and Kabir Singh.
Indian home-grown music festival Sunburn also grew significantly in 2019 with over three million fans attending.
