Second lottery dates unveiled for Tokyo 2020 Paralympics

Organisers of the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo have announced the second lottery for residents of Japan will kick off next week, following “unprecedented demand” during the initial application phase.

A record 3.1 million tickets were requested during the first Paralympic Games ticket lottery, while only 2.3 million tickets are available for the event, which runs from August 25 to September 6.

About 600,000 tickets were allocated in the first lottery, with the new round of sales to open on January 15 and close on January 29.

Seats at competitive events will be priced from JPY 900 ($130/€116/£99) and will cost no more than JPY 7,000, a move which the organising committee claims is to encourage young people to attend.

Tickets for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will cost from JPY 8,000 up to JPY 150,000.
