StubHub to donate proceeds from Lakers games to Kobe foundation

StubHub has pledged to donate funds from upcoming Los Angeles Lakers games to the Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation, following the sudden death of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant last week.

The NBA star played his entire 20-season professional career with the Lakers. He helped to secure five championships during his time with the team prior to his death, aged 41, in a helicopter crash that killed eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.

To commemorate those who passed away on January 26, StubHub has vowed to give all of the money it makes in the two upcoming games at the Staples Centre to the charity.

“In honour of Kobe and Gigi Bryant, all fees for the January 31 Lakers versus Portland Trailblazers game and the Lakers versus Clippers game – for whenever it is rescheduled – will be donated to the Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation,” Akshay Khanna, the general manager of sports for StubHub, told USA Today Sports.

The Lakers had been pencilled in to play against rival the Clippers on Tuesday, though the NBA opted to postpone the game out of respect for the Lakers organisation and its fan base.

According to USA Today, prices for Friday’s home game against the Portland Trail Blazers have skyrocketed, with the cheapest price on StubHub listed for $879.
