Ticketmaster allegedly changed T&Cs to prevent chargebacks

Ticketmaster is understood to have updated its terms and conditions to remove the option to chargeback and prevent ticketholders from demanding refunds.

The Live Nation-owned ticketing giant’s T&Cs currently state: “You will not contact us to seek a refund or exchange from us when we are prohibited from providing one by its clients, and you will not dispute or otherwise seek a ‘chargeback’ from the company whose credit card you used to purchase tickets from the site.”

It continues to say that if chargebacks take place, tickets are subject to cancellation and would prohibit future purchases.

TheTicketingBusiness contacted Ticketmaster about the supposed changes, but its spokesperson did not specifically confirm the alleged T&C updates.

Ticketmaster indicated in a post about the cancellation and rescheduling of events during the Covid-19 outbreak that its standing policy is to “automatically refund the full cost of the ticket and fees to the original purchaser’s method of payment used at time of purchase”.

While there is no mention of chargebacks in the post, it does state that there is “nothing you need to do” if an event is cancelled as it offers refunds automatically within 30 days.

Ticketmaster said: “As global health concerns continue to develop, our team is working diligently behind the scenes, coordinating with federal, state and local officials in monitoring and assessing overall impact, while actively supporting the artists, teams, festivals and venues you love as they determine how best to proceed with the thousands of events they have on the horizon.

“As we receive updates from artists, teams and show organisers on their postponed and rescheduled events, as well as their individual refund policies, we will be providing fans with the latest news on their event status.”
