Amsterdam-based ticketing start-up Tiqets has launched an initiative to support museums and attractions reopening across six countries.

The Awakening Week is a six-week programme, which kicks off next week, that spotlights a series of exclusive free virtual experiences and new in-person experiences from venues such as the Musée d’Orsay in France, the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland, the Vatican in Italy, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in the US, and the Château de Versailles in France, among more than 100 others.

Tiqets, which is an online booking platform for museums and attractions, will host Awakening Weeks in the UK, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and the US

New exhibitions and activities for locals will be launched alongside ticket giveaways and limited discounts to encourage people to return to their local cultural centres.

In addition, venues will also host free, interactive online experiences that have been created exclusively for the initiative.

Participating venues are also highlighting new activities that fans can attend after reopening their doors following the shutdown due to COVID-19.This includes a free concert series on the terraces at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, a fully redesigned museum experience at Fotografiska in New York, and the launch of new tours such as the new UK Imagine Experiences series.

Luuc Elzinga, president and founder of Tiqets, said: “In the past months, museums and attractions have worked tirelessly to make it safe to visit their venue again. Now it’s time to roll out the welcome mat and safely celebrate the reawakening of these venues to the public.

“We’re thrilled that more than 100 of our museum and attraction partners have joined us for the Awakening Weeks to inspire visitors to enjoy these incredible experiences without the crowds from the past.”

Last month, Tiqets announced it was offering museums and attractions the opportunity to use its booking engine commission-free to help adapt to new COVID-19 measures.

The newly upgraded technology includes features like timeslot-based booking and online reservations that can help venues who are strapped for resources reopen.

The Tiqets Booking Engine is a full, white-label ticketing solution that can be embedded on a venue’s website and can be configured to match the style of their brand. It has recently been updated with new options including time slot based-ticketing, dynamic pricing for off-peak days, and free reservations for members.
