Anghami, a music platform in the Middle East and North Africa, is entering the live events market through the opening of new venues across the region and in the US and UK.

Anghami has formed a joint venture with Addmind of the hospitality sector, which operates brands such as White, Iris and Calm, and will open its initial Anghami Lab venue in Dubai in 2022.

Further venues will follow in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh and other major cities, such as Jeddah, Cairo, Beirut, London, New York and Los Angeles.

Eddy Maroun, co-founder and chief executive officer of Anghami, said: “We are excited to partner with Addmind to create this unique, transformational experience for our users. Addmind is a leading expert in conceptualising and operating hospitality spaces, and this is a great opportunity to further reinforce the value we provide digitally to be converged offline in a unique user-to-guest experience.”

Anghami said the venues are venues are designed to integrate both the online and offline worlds, merging digital and traditional entertainment. Anghami Labs will feature a lounge, stage and studio for creators that can come together to produce music inspired by Arabic and international cultures. This music will then be available to stream on the music platform.

Tony Habre, chief executive of Addmind, added: “Anghami is more than just a streaming platform, they have elevated the value of the music in the industry in the Middle East as a whole – Anghami Lab is an amazing and unique concept that embodies our rich Arab culture with an international twist, which we are thrilled to bring to fruition and scale.”

Anghami was launched in 2012 and was the first streaming platform in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It is set to be listed on NASDAQ (National Association of Security Dealers Automated Quotations) New York, via a proposed merger with Vistas Media Acquisition Company.
