LA sports fans and concertgoers will have to wear masks

LA County will now require residents and visitors to wear masks to large outdoor events such as concerts and sports games, as well as indoor events.

It had been announced in July that sports fans and concertgoers would have to wear masks to indoor events because of rising COVID-19 cases, and more specifically the Delta variant, but this has now been extended to outdoor events with an attendance of over 10,000 people.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health released a new mandate on Monday which said that it now “requires all persons at an outdoor mega event to wear a face mask, except when actively eating or drinking”.

It then also clarified that ‘eating or drinking’ is the “limited time during which the mask can be removed briefly to eat or drink, and that it must be immediately put back on afterwards”.

Attendees to these events must wear their masks, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. NFL teams the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers have already responded to the new mandate, and have stated that fans will need to wear a mask while at SoFi Stadium.

Around 162,724 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the US yesterday (Wednesday), while 51% of the population have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
