Tomorrow (Friday) will see the further gradual reopening of Ireland’s entertainment venues following the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, restrictions will still be in place for indoor live music, drama and live entertainment with spectators having to be fully seated. This is also the same for sporting events, which are now able to open at full capacity after having been allowed to operate at 50% until tomorrow.
It is a blow to live entertainment and music venues as the addition of seating could reduce the potential full capacity at events, which does not have a set capacity limit from the Irish Government. Patrons are permitted to stand up at their seats however.
A further blow comes in the form of the EU Digital Covid Certificate, which is proof of vaccination against coronavirus. This pass will be required for entry at live indoor events and hospitality venues.
COVID-19 passes and fixed capacity limits will not apply for outdoor events, though organisers should ensure protective measures remain in place.
Contact tracing data will also still play a part in Ireland’s COVID plans.
In a statement, the Department of the Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) said: “The Government has agreed that the remaining aspects of hospitality, entertainment and night-time economy sector can reopen only with the full range of protective measures in place and the wide and robust implementation of the EU Digital COVID Certificate.
“This will allow us to move forward carefully with Ireland’s plan for the next phase of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The statement added: “Sector-specific guidance and protocols, including with regard to work, hospitality, cultural and sporting events will be renewed and strengthened where appropriate.”
