Former ticket kiosk up for sale in London for over £3m

A former, small West End ticket kiosk on a traffic island near Leicester Square is on sale for £3.3m (€3.9m/$4.4m) plus VAT.

The freehold property is a former ticket kiosk, which many Londoners would have used to purchase tickets for theatre shows, and is based on Charing Cross Road. It has a small structure at ground level with a cast iron staircase, which leads down to a wider basement area.

It has been called Tourism Island as well as a general ticket kiosk, and sold West End tickets as well as tickets for local attractions.

It also supplied The London Pass for tourists that wanted to explore England’s capital city.

The old kiosk is being advertised as an ‘iconic island’ for sale and has been on the market for eight months as it is struggling to find a new buyer. The ground floor measures 250 square feet while the lower ground floor, or basement, is 1,448 square feet.

In a Facebook group, Londonist Urban Oddities, a user called Barry Isaacson has posted a picture of the former ticket kiosk, where other users have reminisced on visiting London for the first time and purchasing attraction tickets.

Another user, Geneva Standbridge, commented: “Probably a stupid question, but was this a ticket booth back in 2009? I’ve been to London several times from Canada since 2009, but that first trip I distinctly remember buying West End show tickets at a kiosk like that, and going down a spiral staircase to the underground area seems to ring a bell.”

Sherryl Lynn Sinclair added: “I got some fantastic tickets from that booth back in the day.”
