The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ticket application phase launched today (Wednesday) with a range of prices and packages to attract local and global fans, including a special fourth category that allows local residents to secure tickets for as little as QAR 40 (£8/$11/€10).

During the initial sales period which ends on February 8, fans are able to submit their ticket applications and it does not matter whether these are submitted on the first day or the last day, as all tickets are allocated following the closure of the application period.

Successful, partially successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by March 8 and given further information.

FIFA’s secretary general Fatma Samoura said: “This is a FIFA World Cup for Qatar, the region and the world, and the products launched today reflect FIFA’s goal of bringing the beautiful game to as many fans globally as possible.

“It will be a festival of football that will see fans experience the rich culture and history of the region through the platform of football at top-class stadiums and we look forward to bringing people from different cultures together to live football at the FIFA World Cup.”

Fans can now apply for individual match tickets for a specified match, team-specific tickets for those wanting to watch a particular team, four-stadium tickets, which is a new product that provides fans the opportunity to watch four different matches on subsequent days. Other tickets include accessibility tickets providing tailored facilities and spaces and supporter tickets, where fans can sit among their team’s fellow supporters.

Qatar 2022 will also present the opportunity of attending more than one match a day during the early stages of the World Cup, due to the close proximity of the stadiums. Following the final draw, ticket applicants will be able to register for more than one match per day. FIFA has also softened the rules from previous tournaments, as households can now purchase up to six tickets per match and up to 60 tickets throughout the entire tournament.

Nasser Al Khater, the chief executive of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC, added: “The first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world will be an extraordinary event and together with our partners, rights holders and other stakeholders, Qatar cannot wait to bring fans together to celebrate their shared passion for football, experience a new culture and enjoy everything that our country and region have to offer.”

The starting price of QAR40 for local fans is thought to represent the cheapest World Cup ticket since the 1986 edition in Mexico.
