Broadway has continued its impressive march towards normality following the COVID-19 pandemic, posting positive financial results and attendances over the last few weeks.
According to reports from BroadwayWorld, grosses for Broadway shows in New York dropped during the week ending March 6, but still remained positive since theatres and performances re-opened after COVID-19-induced closures.
During the first week of March, a total of 19 shows played 149 performances on Broadway to audiences at 78.18% capacity. Total attendance was 153,269 and total gross was $19.7m (£15m/€18m).
This is a slight drop compared to the week before, ending February 27, which saw a total of 19 shows play 145 performances. These events attracted 92.% capacity with an attendance of 177,701 overall. Total gross for this week was $23m.
February was a particularly strong month for Broadway attendances and sales with the week ending February 20 boasting 89.8% capacity, while total gross amounted to $22m.
Since Broadway re-opened last year, shows have played 4,305 performances at approximately 81% capacity up until March 6.
These shows have earned around $519.5m and have entertained some 4.1 million guests over the last six months since Broadway opened up.
