Music Bank, a South Korean music programme, was forced to cancel its concert in Chile due to poor weather conditions and safety concerns.

The event, which was being held in Santiago, was paused mid-show after weather conditions worsened and put K-Pop fans at risk.

A capacity crowd of 50,000 had arrived at the open-air Estadio Monumental stadium for the concert. According to news outlet SpoTV News, it had started to rain before the event began, meaning K-Pop groups StayC and The Boyz were able to perform before the poor weather intensified.

However, the weather worsened and when girl group (G)I-dle took the stage, fans were unable to watch. Member Shuhua also slipped and fell while performing, prompting organisers to cancel the rest of the show for safety reasons.

(G)I-dle were unable to complete their performance and boybands Tomorrow X Together, Ateez and NCT Dream did not make it to the stage. However, the three acts did appear briefly to apologise to fans for being unable to perform and to thank them for coming.

Tomorrow X Together’s Yeonjun said on Twitter: “I wanted to show you a great performance, I’m so sorry. I’m sorry and I thank the fans who have been waiting for us. And I love you.”

NCT Dream wrote on Twitter: “We are very sorry but at the same time, very happy with our visit to Chile. See you next time! Don’t get sick, take care and we love you so much.”
