English Football League club Portsmouth is set to trial a new ticket exchange service for season ticket-holders that are no longer able to attend sold-out fixtures.

Supporters of the League One club will be able to make their seat available to fellow fans and receive part of the sale price.

The service will be first used for the club’s next home game at Fratton Park (pictured) against MK Dons on December 17.

After a buyer is found, the seller’s season card will be disabled for that game, and the new purchaser will have the option to receive a paper ticket or an e-ticket.

The season ticket-holder will receive a £5 ($6/€6) credit in their online ticketing account, which can be used at any home league or cup game during the current season, or towards their 2023-24 season ticket.

During the trial period, this service will be limited to 100 season ticket-holders being able to put their seat up for resale. Following the trial period, the number of season ticket-holders able to use the service will be unlimited.

Fans will be able to log in to their online ticketing account, manage their tickets and list the specified ticket on the exchange.  Tickets will be listed until 11.59pm local time the day before the fixture, and fans can stop their ticket from being sold through their online account if their plans change.

Supporters can also post tickets on behalf of another season ticket-holder, but they must be part of the seller’s online network prior to the process, meaning tickets can be sold on behalf of friends and family.

Once a ticket has been sold, the season card will be deactivated for this match and the account credited with £5. If the ticket does not sell before the time selected by the seller, or the automatic cut-off point of 11.59pm, then the ticket is taken off sale. The seller will receive a notification to say that the ticket did not sell and is available for use.

Any Portsmouth supporter will be able to purchase a ticket through the new ticket exchange service, and all tickets will be sold at £24 – the price of an adult ticket. There will be no additional charge on top of the standard booking fees.
