Lollapalooza India has been hailed for setting new standards for the vast nation’s festival scene after welcoming more than 60,000 fans to its inaugural event.

International stars The Strokes, Divine, Jackson Wang and Imagine Dragons were among the 40 acts that performed at the first-ever large-scale international music festival in India.

The two-day, multi-genre event was held at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course, with four stages housed across the sprawling, 50-acre site.

The event was produced and promoted by the entertainment and ticketing platform BookMyShow, along with global producers Perry Farrell and C3 Presents. As well as attracting international artists, local acts who performed for the vast crowds included Kayan, T.ill Apes, Kumail and Bloodywood.

BookMyShow said Lollapalooza India “raised the bar for live entertainment in India”.

Indian celebrities who attended the event included Bollywood stars Aditya Roy Kapoor, Karishma Kapoor and Aadar Jain.

Lollapalooza India also unveiled a campaign titled #LollaForChange, which aims for minimal waste, managing food wastage, and increased sustainable measures. The organisers arranged for a range of facilities such as sign language interpreters, disability services and support organisations, plus on-site response teams providing assistance for psychological safety and inclusivity for the LGBT+ community.

BookMyShow said: “The crowds were filled with enthusiastic audiences, jumping tall, cracking into some killer dance moves, a sea of cellphones lit up in the air, some fans camping much in advance of their much-awaited shows for their favourite artists and many catching the Lollapalooza artistic and creative vibe of popping colours into signs they held up to speak to the artists.”

The introduction of Lollapalooza India means that the festival brand has now grown to eight countries on four different continents, including the US, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France and Sweden. BookMyShow said that Lollapalooza India will return in 2024.
