Lionel Messi’s impending move to Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami has seen ticket prices for the team's upcoming games soar.

In a tweet, Inter Miami effectively confirmed the arrival of Messi and it is expected that the former Barcelona man will make his debut for the team on July 21 against Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup. Tickets for this game were languishing around $29 (£23/€27), but ticket marketplace TickPick now shows prices at $684 (Thursday) and rising.

Kyle Zorn, brand manager at TickPick, told Reuters: “We saw an almost instantaneous jump in Inter Miami ticket prices when the word got out that Messi was leaning towards joining the club.

“Given his status as arguably the greatest player in the world, every time Inter Miami plays on the road, we’re going to see record breaking ticket prices.”

Vivid Seats’ lowest-priced tickets are currently on sale for $545 (Thursday).

TickPick also revealed to Reuters that Inter Miami’s away games against the New York Red Bulls in August and against Los Angeles FC in September had seen a 1,236% increase and 420% increase, respectively.

It was revealed yesterday (Wednesday) that the World Cup winner had decided to head to Miami after leaving French club Paris Saint-Germain.
