Live Nation Canada has further strengthened its portfolio with the acquisition of The Opera House, a historic music venue in Toronto.

The venue originally opened as a theatre in 1909, with the space later becoming a single-screen cinema before it was turned into The Opera House by the Ellinas family in 1989. Since then, the venue has hosted performances from the likes of Metallica, Nirvana, Eminem, A$AP Rocky, MIA, Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine, Halsey and more.

The Ellinas family will continue to remain involved in daily operations.

Athena Ellinas-Towers, general manager of The Opera House, said: “The success of this legendary venue is due to the support from our partners, promoters, artists, management and agents who trusted us with hosting their events over the years.

“Most importantly our staff, those that are here with us today and those that have been here throughout the past. We are honoured to have Live Nation Canada continue to bring the best in music, culture, and fan experiences to our historic venue for years to come.”

Wayne Zronik, president of business operations, Live Nation Canada, added: “We’re honoured to add The Opera House to our venue portfolio in Canada. This venue has played an important role in shaping Toronto’s vibrant arts and culture scene and we’re eager to showcase the best of The Opera House and build on the legacy that the Ellinas family have built.”

Last month, Live Nation Canada announced that it had added The KEE to Bala to its global portfolio, Venue Nation, in partnership with the venue’s current operators, Mike Strong and Mike Homewood.
