The KC Current was founded in 2021 as an NWSL expansion team, and first announced plans for a new stadium the same year.
In October, it was announced that railroad company CPKC will hold the naming rights for the stadium.
Despite season tickets selling out, there will be 2,000 seats available for single matches, group sales and other ticket packages through the team’s waitlist, which is part of The Current Club.
This scheme features exclusive benefits for fans as well as serving as the key platform to purchase single match tickets for 2024 and beyond.
Current co-founder and co-owner Angie Long said: “This is another exciting moment for our club and the amazing fans in Kansas City. It validates, again, the rewards of investing in women’s sports.
“We cannot wait to open this beautiful riverfront stadium and bring the world-class experience and sold-out crowd to our city.”
Co-founder and co-owner Chris Long added: “Kansas City is the Soccer Capital of America for a reason. We have the best fans in the country and we couldn’t do what we are doing here without them.
“This is a historic moment for women’s sports globally, and we know the excitement of match nights, the world-class culinary experience, the locally inspired art deco and the intimate setting for fans will make this one of the best fan experiences in the world.”
In addition to being the first in line when season ticket memberships become available, Current Club members will also receive priority access to single match tickets, 10% discount on merchandise and a commemorative merchandise item.
“We expected to be sold out for the opening season at CPKC Stadium because of the support and passion that fans in Kansas City have for soccer,” said Current vice-president of ticketing and sales, Dan Boyd. “We’ve seen season ticket growth trends increase 135% since 2022. We knew our product would lead to an environment that cultivates an electric atmosphere, giving the city, the fans and the players what they want, and more importantly, what they deserve.”
