More than a million tickets have now been sold for this summer’s Copa América international football tournament in the US.
CONMEBOL, the South American Football Confederation, said the milestone had been reached ahead of next week’s opening Copa América game between Argentina and Canada at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Copa América will feature the participation of the 10 national teams and six invited teams from North America. In total, there will be 32 games ahead of the final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on July 14.
Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL, said: “We are filled with excitement and enthusiasm about the sale of more than a million tickets. This also renews our commitment to offering a unique and unforgettable CONMEBOL Copa América, worthy of the rich history of the oldest national team tournament in the world.
“The entire planet will experience a global sports festival, and countless football fans across the Americas will enjoy this experience through unprecedented programs and activities.”
The 13 Copa América venues range from the 82,000-capacity MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to the 18,000-seat Children’s Mercy Park.
The US, Panama, Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, and Costa Rica will join the 10 South American nations, including world champions Argentina and Brazil.
