Paris’ staging of the Paralympic Games in August has finally reached one million ticket sales, after 2.8 million tickets were put up for grabs in October last year.
Ticket sales had initially struggled for the Paralympics, which will follow the hosting of the Olympic Games later this month.
The organising committee had originally hoped to host a sell-out Paralympic Games.
In May, in order to boost sales, Paris 2024 organisers and athletes from the French team launched an appeal called “I miss nothing, except you”. The campaign highlighted the Paralympic Games and Para athletes, promoting affordable ticket prices and family offers.
Some 550,000 tickets priced at €25 or less are still on sale, while many tickets start at just €15. Additionally, tickets for the finals begin at €25 and the Closing Ceremony is available to attend from €45.
Guests will be able to watch Para athletics events at the Stade de France, wheelchair tennis at Roland-Garros, blind football at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower, as well as Para swimming at the Paris la Defense Arena.
The four most popular sports of the Paralympic Games so far in terms of ticket sales are: Para athletics at the Stade de France, wheelchair basketball at Bercy Arena, Para swimming at Paris la Defense Arena and wheelchair tennis at Roland Garros.
Three sports are sold out including Para triathlon at Pont Alexandre III, Para equestrian at Palace of Versailles, and shooting Para sport at National Shooting Centre of Chateauroux.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will begin on Friday, July 26 and run until Sunday August 11, followed by the Paralympic Games from Wednesday August 28 to Sunday September 8.
