While 71% of younger Americans aged between 18 and 34 are still planning to be in the crowd of at least one ticketed event this year, it represents a seven-point drop from 2023.
According to travel insurance and assistance company Allianz Partners USA’s Annual Vacation Confidence Index, entertainment continues to remain a driving force for trips with 24% of Americans planning to travel to attend a major pop culture event.
Some 40% of young people planned to leave their hometowns to attend an event, according to the survey, while 26% of older travellers between 35 and 54 also expected to make a trip out of attending their favourite shows and gatherings.
However, those over 55 were less likely to (9%) travel for entertainment.
Additionally, the survey revealed that 64% – no change year over year – of Americans planned to attend a ticketed event in 2024, while nearly one in five (18%) expected to attend three events or more. This is down two points from last year, however.
While there may have been a slight drop in the number of young people expecting to attend ticketed events this year, people aged 35-54 have jumped four points to also reach 71% and those over 55 have increased by two points to 50%.
More than half of those surveyed (52%) said they were likely to attend ticketed concerts, festivals or performing arts events in 2024, while 43% said they would opt for sports.
Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA, commented: “Ticketed events continue to set the stage for American travel. If you plan to build a trip around an event, ask your ticketing provider about event ticket insurance which may reimburse you up to 100% of non-refundable ticket costs if a covered situation prevents you from attending. Travel insurance can also help reimburse pre-paid, non-refundable travel costs, up to the plan’s maximum limit, if you have to cancel your trip for a reason covered by the policy.”
