There are still 1.2 million tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on sale with less than a week to go until the first sporting events begin.
Although the Games begin officially on July 26 with the Opening Ceremony, several football and rugby sevens matches are scheduled to take place two days prior.
As a result of the remaining tickets, more than 50,000 have been put back on sale today across 30 sports.
This is part of the Ticketing Thursdays initiative that was launched in May and continues until the beginning of the Games.
This includes tickets for the typically highly sought-after swimming and athletics finals, according to deputy general director of the Games Organising Committee Mickaël Aloïsio.
Paris 2024 has already broken records for Olympic Games ticket sales with 8.7 million sold, beating the previous record held by Atlanta 1996 at 8.3 million.
In addition to swimming and athletics, Aloïsio is focusing on offloading tickets for popular team sports such as football, basketball, and handball – which is also due to have competition begin before the Opening Ceremony.
Following today’s selling window, tickets are then due to be available on a daily basis from Monday next week (July 22).
Aloïsio claims that more than 60% of tickets have been sold to French customers so far while international appetite also remains strong as Spanish and Italian buyers have become more prominent in recent weeks.
The Organising Committee is expecting that the late drive for Olympic tickets will also act as a catalyst for the sale of Paralympic tickets.
The Paralympic Games in Paris are due to take place from August 28 to September 8 and have seen around one million tickets sold out of a total of 2.8 million.
