A new music festival in the Australian city of Perth was cancelled just two weeks after it was announced and tickets were placed on sale.
The festival was set to host performances from the likes of international artists Jorja Smith, J Hus, Rema and Headie One.
A message on ticketing platform Megatix informed customers that the festival, which was due to take place on October 12, would not be going ahead.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Promise Village on the 12th of October 2024 will no longer be going ahead. Refunds have been automatically processed, so no action is required,” the notice said.
Promise Village co-founder Emal Naim explained that the event was axed because of poor ticket sales and little support from the local government.
“It unfortunately didn’t hold up to initial expectations and there was not much support to sustain costs, it just wasn’t feasible anymore,” Naim told local outlet PerthNow.
“We’ve made the decision indefinitely to not return to Perth, we’re scared to.”
