A backwards step for consumers?
Google has announced that it will no longer block third party cookies in its web browser Chrome. The Information Commissioner’s Office has responded to say that it was “disappointed” as it believed blocking third party cookies would be a positive step for consumers. “We will monitor how the industry responds and consider regulatory action where systemic non-compliance is identified for all companies including Google,” said Stephen Bonner, deputy commissioner of the ICO.
The importance of data
Australian businesses Oztix and Seeka have launched first-party tracking for the events industry. First-party behavioural data is the most reliable and valuable source of information and is collected by the business owners directly from their customers’ real-time interactions, as opposed to third-party data collected by an external entity. Seeka co-founder Kim Benzie pitched the idea to Oztix co-founder Stuart Field (both pictured) in September 2022, with development beginning shortly after.

Chicago operator cruises with RocketRez
RocketRez, an end-to-end cloud ticketing platform for tours and attractions, has collaborated with Chicago Line Cruises, which runs river architecture cruises on the Chicago River. The operator traditionally relied on an old ticketing system that made it difficult and slow to use, creating challenges when training seasonal hires. It also caused bottlenecks during peak times and did not offer modern features such as mobile ticketing. RocketRez has now presented a user-friendly interface with features that allow customers to send and scan digital tickets.
