The Hundred was first introduced in 2021, with a focus on creating an even more fast-paced and entertaining format of cricket where each side faces 100 balls. The main goal was to entice a younger generation of fans and the competition sold more than half a million tickets in its first year.
In 2022 and in its second year, The Hundred attracted even more families, children and women. Attendance records were also set for women’s cricket, which were once more beaten in 2023. Some 580,000 fans attended The Hundred last year, a 16% rise on 2022.
The tournament is run by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and features eight men’s and women’s teams located in major cities across the two countries.
With an increased focus on matchday entertainment, The Hundred has continued to partner with BBC Music Introducing, bringing together a mixture of established music acts and rising stars.
