The 2024-25 World Darts Championship has sold out before going on general sale after record demand for the event at Alexandra Palace.
All available standard tickets for this year’s tournament in London went on sale initially exclusively to PDCTV annual members.
They then sold out just hours later, including nearly 40,000 that were bought inside 30 minutes.
The event will now not have a general sale period as was previously advertised and the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) says it “recognises the frustration” of fans that were unable to purchase tickets.
This year’s ticket sales limited the number of sessions an individual can book to four, with tickets limited to six for table tickets or ten for tiered tickets, although more people than ever attempted to purchase tickets.
The organiser has worked with ticketing provider SeeTickets to combat fraud and has warned fans not to buy from unofficial sources.
“Despite tens of thousands of malicious attempts to acquire tickets, the SeeTickets software’s security and verification process made it extremely difficult for any of these attempts to get past the initial landing page, and only a handful of completed transactions were flagged as being suspicious – all of which have been cancelled,” read a PDC statement
“It is important to note that many of the tickets being advertised as being for sale on resale websites do not even exist and are being falsely advertised for sale.
“We urge all fans to only purchase from official sources as listed on the PDC website, and the only genuine resale market is via the SeeTickets Fan To Fan platform.”
Luke Humphries will be looking to retain his title at the upcoming event, which is scheduled to take place from December 15 2024 to January 3 2025 and has £2.5m ($3.1m/€2.9m) in prize money on offer.
