The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is looking to purchase $1.7m (£1.3m/€1.5m) worth of tickets for the city’s Formula 1 Grand Prix this year.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix is set to take place from November 21-24 in what will be the second edition of its inclusion on the Formula 1 calendar under its current name.
The authority’s board of directors put the ticket purchase up for approval at its meeting this week.
The body did the same last year but spent much more, at $7m, in public money for the race.
Tickets are set to be given to the LVCVA’s largest current and potential customers in the aim of promoting Las Vegas to attract new events to southern Nevada.
Some of the tickets may also be sold to resort and community partners.
During last year’s Grand Prix, the authority hosted up to 500 customers per night in a hospitality suite that was paid for with $4m of public funds.
In addition, it gave out $15,000 in tickets to the paddock spectator zone and $2,500 worth of grandstand seats to select guests.
A total of 31 of the authority’s members of staff were also provided tickets over the course of the race weekend.
Last month, the LVCVA entered into a partnership with Formula 1 in a bid to “utilise the sport’s global platform to grow and sustain tourism in Las Vegas through trackside branding at a number of races this season”.
The partnership will run until the end of 2025.
“We are thrilled to elevate Las Vegas’ visibility by becoming an official partner of Formula 1,” said LVCVA president Steve Hill.
“In recent years, Las Vegas has made tremendous strides in becoming the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World and partnering with the world’s premier motor sport organisation to host the Las Vegas Grand Prix marked a major milestone in that effort.
“We look forward to working closely with Formula 1 through this new partnership and keeping Las Vegas top of mind for the millions of F1 viewers and fans around the world.”
