More than one million tickets for the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games remain available, although organisers hope the success of the Olympics will cause a late surge in sales.

The Olympic Games concluded last night in the French capital which now prepares for its first hosting of the Paralympics from August 28 to September 8.

A record 9.5 million tickets, out of 10 million, were sold for the Olympics while only 1.3 million of 2.3 million tickets have been sold for the Paralympics.

However, a boost in sales is expected following the end of the Olympic Games.

“Normally in the last week of the Olympics and immediately after the closing ceremony of the Olympics normally there is a peak,” said International Paralympic Committee president Andrew Parsons, as reported by BBC Sport.

“That’s what we saw in Rio, we saw that in London, we saw that in Beijing. This is what we expect.

“We believe that Parisians that were not in Paris during the [Olympic] Games will have that feeling of ‘I want to experience that as well’ and they will do that during the Paralympics.”

Organising Committee deputy director general Michaël Aloïsio claims that the body is now selling five times as many tickets each day for the Paralympics now compared to before the start of the Olympic Games.

On the eve of the Olympics last month, just one million Paralympic tickets had been sold to the public.

Furthermore, more than 600,000 tickets had been purchased by the French government and partner associations to be distributed to priority audiences such as young people and people with disabilities.

Tickets for the Paralympics start at €15 (£12/$16), while half of all tickets on sale are available for €25 or less while tickets for event finals range from €20 to €100.
