Organisers of US arts festival Burning Man have been forced to open up ticket sales to non-registered buyers for the first time, as this year’s edition has yet to sell out with just days to go, according to reports.
Tickets went on sale for the event, which is held in Black Rock Desert, Nevada, back in April. While Burning Man’s 73,000 ticket allocation for previous editions has sold out in as little as 30 minutes, sales have struggled this year.
Last year’s event saw thousands stranded at the site due to torrential rain, which may have had an impact on this year’s sales.
Guests had been warned to conserve food and water, and to take shelter, after severe weather had turned the site into a sea of mud making it difficult to leave.
To boost sales for 2024, Burning Man organisers recently launched an ‘OMG Sale’ which will allow approximately 3,000 buyers who did not pre-register to purchase up to two tickets each. Additionally, a further 1,500 vehicle passes were made available.
The tickets have been priced at $575 (£449/€527) each, with the vehicle passes costing $150, along with fees and taxes.
Burning Man will take place between August 25 and September 2. It is described as an event that brings together art and expression, and its Mission Statement is to “facilitate and extend the culture that has issued from the Burning Man event into the larger world”.
