Hip hop group De La Soul has implemented a “choose what you pay” ticketing model for an upcoming show in New York City.

The event is set to take place at the Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall on January 17 next year.

Fans are encouraged to pay $35 (£27/€31) but have the option to pay more or less based on their own discretion.

“To make the arts more accessible, tickets are available on a Choose-What-You-Pay basis,” read a statement on the Lincoln Center website.

“There is a suggested ticket price of $35.00, as well as options to pay more or less.”

The show comes six months after the group announced a 35th anniversary digital edition of their debut album, ‘3 Feet High and Rising’. It also doubles up as De La Soul’s first NYC show in 16 months.

The group was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for the album.

Elsewhere, the Boundary Brighton festival in the UK is running a one-week pay what you can afford initiative focused on 18 to 24-year-olds from August 14 to 21.

The electronic music festival is taking place at Stanmer Park on September 28 and will allocate 1,000 tickets to the campaign which start at £10 per ticket.

The festival has also committed to donating 25% of each ticket sale from the initiative to its charity partner Starr Trust which aims to empower young people.
