Professional golfer Rory McIlroy (pictured) has backed marketplace TickPick through his investment partnership Symphony Ventures, along with investment firm Brighton Park Capital.
Together, the firms have announced a $250m (£190m/€225m) investment in TickPick, with the aim of expanding the platform and reaching new audiences. The backing will enable the marketplace to further enhance its offerings in the live events industry.
Symphony Ventures was established by McIlroy and Sean O’Flaherty in 2019 with a focus on investing in the healthcare, sports and technology sectors.
TickPick was founded in 2011 by co-chief executives Brett Goldberg and Chris O’Brien, a marketplace that is built on an all-in, no-fee pricing model. The mobile-orientated platform offers features such as Price Tracking and Price Freeze, which enables customers to make informed purchasing decisions.
The marketplace has over 14 million mobile app downloads, with total ticket sales increasing by eight times over the last three years to reach nearly $1bn.
“We’re thrilled to announce our latest growth investment, which will help accelerate our ability to transform the ticketing industry,” commented O’Brien.
“We founded TickPick with the unwavering commitment to deliver a transparent and hassle-free ticket-buying experience for consumers. This investment will allow us to deepen this commitment by accelerating the pace of product innovation, raise our brand awareness, and reach more customers than ever before.”
Goldberg added: “We have built a relationship with Brighton Park over many years and the firm is our clear partner of choice given its strong track record of partnering with founder-led companies and marketplace platforms, which we believe will help us continue to scale the business and drive a lasting impact.”
TickPick was among the representatives that offered all-in pricing in a meeting with US President Joe Biden last year, aimed at promoting the practice to the likes of Ticketmaster and SeatGeek.
The platform is an official fan experience partner of the National Football League’s (NFL’s) Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams, and also has a deal with Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins. Additionally, TickPick is an official ticket and hospitality partner of LaLiga North America, a counterpart for the Spanish football league.
